You look like you’re coping. But what is it costing you?

Your the person that gets S#&T done. People know they can rely on you. You’re often the energetic one, the one with ideas, the one who can somehow fit one more thing in. People often ask 'how you do it?'

From the outside, you look like you're doing amazing.

But by the time you get to the thing you wanted to do, you’re exhausted. Your mind is still busy, but your body feels flat.

You decide you’re going to get back into exercise. You make a plan and go all in. Then you have a busy week, miss a couple of sessions and feel like you’re starting from scratch again.

You finally get some time to rest, but you can’t really settle. You scroll. You plan tomorrow. You think about everything you haven’t done.

And the frustrating part? You already know so much of the advice. You know movement helps. You know you need to eat regularly and get enough sleep. You might even be the person giving that advice to everyone else. So why is it so hard to do it for yourself?

You give your family your time, energy and money without thinking twice. Yet doing something for yourself can bring up guilt. Even when you have more space in your week, you can feel annoyed that you still can’t use it the way you thought you would.

If you recognise yourself in this, I want you to know there’s a reason it feels hard.

Your nervous system has been working hard

Your nervous system helps you respond to what life asks of you. When there’s a lot to manage, your body can become very good at staying alert, getting things done and moving on to the next thing.

The problem is that the demands often keep coming. Work, family, messages, decisions, exercise, appointments, the mental list that never seems to end. Eventually, you might notice that switching off feels harder, little things get under your skin, or you’re exhausted but still restless.

That doesn’t mean you’ve done something wrong. Stress can affect your body, mood, concentration and ability to relax. And when I look at how much some women carry in a day, their reactions make a lot more sense.

Think of that moment when one small request makes you want to cry or snap. It might be a small request, but it didn’t land on a fresh nervous system. It landed after a poor night’s sleep, a missed lunch, ten other requests and a day of looking after everyone else.

So what does building capacity mean?

For me, it means having a little more room inside your day. You start to recognise your signs earlier. You can choose what helps in that moment. And after something demanding, you’re better able to recover.

That might mean noticing your jaw is tight before you reach the point of snapping. Taking a few comfortable breaths before the next task. Going for a gentle walk when your thoughts are racing. Eating lunch before you hit that 3 pm wall. Or catching the thought that says you should be able to do it all, and asking what actually needs your attention today.

None of those things has to be done perfectly. We find the ones that work for you and practise using them in real life.

This is the work I do in my eight-week one-on-one program. We look at your patterns and what your body is telling you, then bring together breathing, movement, mindset and nutrition to help you build capacity over time.

You don’t need to become less driven or less caring. I’d just love for those qualities to cost you less - for you to feel more ALIVE!

If this sounds like your life, you can get in touch with me. We can talk about what support might look like for you.
